Hi!
I'm Matheus

Here you will find past projects, current works and also some texts about random things I am interested in.

About me

My name is Matheus Farias, I'm a 26-year-old Electrical Engineering Ph.D student at Harvard University advised by Prof. H. T. Kung.

I'm especially interested in developing novel solutions for real-life problems using interdisciplinary engineering approaches, mainly combining machine learning, internet of things and hardware design.

iOwlT: Sound Geolocalization System

InnovateFPGA 2019 - Tianjin, China

iOwlT: Sound Geolocalization System

An intelligent system inspired by owls using neural networks, adaptive filtering, and real-time processing in FPGAs to geographically track sound events and then determine the position of gun shooters on a mobile application by Bluetooth connection.

Competed in InnovateFPGA 2019 international competition in Tianjin, China; earned 3 international awards, placing Top 0.7%.

iTraffic: Smart Semaphore Network

SBESC 2017 - Curitiba, Brazil

iTraffic: Smart Semaphore Network

Internet of Things intelligent system to dynamically choose traffic lights timing in order to optimize vehicle flow on urban roads using genetic algorithm.

Achieved 130% improvement in the average speed of cars in tested tracks, leading to 1st out of 14 teams at The Brazilian Symposium on Computing Systems Engineering (SBESC) 2017 Regionals Contest.
